Maryam (Mary) was a first century woman of Nazareth, the mother of Isa (A.s) or Jesus…
We always looking forward in our life, thinking about future, and planning , and its quite true. But one thing also necessary to all of us to know about our past, to know about our culture, to know about religion, so today I am starting my journey from the lady of the past, telling about her journey which is so powerful, trustworthy and inspirstional and the lady who is Mother Mary (Mariyam)
Maryam (Mary) was a first century woman of Nazareth, the mother of Isa (A.s) or Jesus, according to the canonical gospels and Quran.
Born- date unknown
Died- unknown, after c.30/33AD
Spouse- Joseph (According to Christianity)
Children- Isa (Jesus), possibly the brother and sister of Isa (Jesus)
Maryam is often referred to by the honorific title Sayyidatuna, meaning “our lady” this title is in parallel to Sayyiduna “our lord”, used for the prophets. A related term of endearment is Siddiqah. Meaning “she who confirms the truth” Or “she who believes sincerely completely.” Another title for Mary is Qanitah, which signifies both constant submission to god and absorption in prayer and invocation in Islam.
She is also called “Tahira” meaning “one who has been purified” and representing her status as one of two human in creation (and the only woman) to not be touched by Satan at any point.
In Quran the chapter is named after Maryam (Mary), mother of Isa (Jesus) and the Virgin Mary in Christian belief.
The Quranic chapter is 16, surah 19 [Maryam].
In surah Maryam, Allah is speaking to Muhammad (PBUH)
“O Muhammad, relate to them (people of the world) the story of Maryam. When she withdrew from her family to a place in the east. She chose to be secluded from them. Allah sent to her the angel and he appeared before her as a grown man. She said ‘ I seek Rahman’s (Allah’s) protection against you leave me alone if you are God fearing.’
The Angle said ‘ don’t be afraid, I am merely a messenger from your Rabb to tell you about the gift of a righteous son.’
She said ‘how shall I do not bear a son, when no man has ever touched me nor am I unchaste?’
The angle replied ‘ it is easy for me, we wish to make him a sign for mankind and a blessing from us’ and this matter has already been decreed.
So she conceived the child and she retired with him to remote place. The pains of childbirth drove her to the trunk of a palm tree. She cried in her anguish: ‘ Ah! Would that I had died before this and been long forgotten!’
The angel from beneath consoled her, saying: ‘ do not grieve! Your Rabb has provided a brook at your feet. If you shake the trunk of this palm tree, it will drop fresh ripe dates upon you. So eat, drink and refresh yourself. If you see any human being, say: I have vowed a fast for Rahman (Allah) so I will not speak to any human being today.’
Carrying the baby, she came back to her people. They said: ‘O Maryam! You have brought something hard to believe! O sister (a woman from the noble family) of Haroon! Your father was neither a bad man nor your mother an unchaste woman.’ In response, she merely pointed toward the baby. They said:’ how can we talk to a baby in the cradle? Whereupon the baby spoke out ‘I am indeed a servant of Allah. He has given me the book and made me prophet. He had made blessed wherever i may be. He has commanded me to establish Salah (prayer) and give zakat (obligatory charity) as long as I live. He has exhorted me to honor my mother and has not made me arrogant, disobedient. Peace is upon me the day I was born, the day I shall die and the day I shall be raised to life again.”
Such was Isa (Jesus) the son of Maryam, and this is the true statement about him.
This how the Quran describe Maryam as a virgin similarly what Christians belief. She conceived Isa (Jesus) through the Holy Spirit while still a virgin.
